Norah has already demonstrated some lovely qualities this year. She is polite, has a lovely sense of humour and ask insightful questions about her learning. This has been evident in her learning during writing in Term 1. We have embarked on a series of writing workshops entitled ‘Slice of Life’ Norah has understood the importance of writing from the heart when recounting her feelings about leaving her old school and starting a new chapter at Ormiston. She included her thoughts, wonderings and feelings and understands how to ‘show not tell’ the reader what is happening. She is also learning how to ask questions of the reader in her writing. Norah has been able to make these improvements in her writing due to a willingness to ask questions about her next learning steps and be happy to take on board suggestions for improvements. Norah’s hard working attitude has served her well and i am looking forward to working with her more as we continue on or learning journey.

Norah settles into her work quickly. Here she is getting comfy and working hard on her Slice of Life. |
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
|
It has been great to see Norah ‘relating well with others’ and ‘participating and contributing’ effectively in her learning during our Literacy lessons. She has demonstrated a ‘capability’ to develop her ideas and write effectively to a conclusion by planning, ‘collaborating’ with other learners and coaches, and caring about her work.

Norah is encouraged to continue developing her confidence in her learning. Her humour and wonderful way of looking at the world is a valuable asset. Norah should now see where she can use her learning to tackle projects in iExplore that can be seem by our wider school community.

Norah's Dolphin iExplore Learning Story
Learner: Norah J Learning Coach: Bex Remington Date: 1 April 2015

Learning Area: iExplore - Dolphins
|
Learning Observed
|
Norah shows a lot of enthusiasm for her iExplore topics and I have noticed that she has been especially absorbed in her current iExplore about dolphins. Norah came and told me she wanted to create a resource for our habitat that would help people learn about dolphins. When I asked why, she told me that she thought dolphins were amazing animals and people should know all about them. She said the most interesting thing about dolphins was their body and the parts that made them special. Norah decided that it would be great if other learners could learn about the names of the body parts and information about them. She came up with the idea to make a matching ‘snap’ game where players had to match the name with the information. She is now putting together the information that these cards will be created from.

This video is of Norah explaining her iExplore and the game she is hoping to create.
|
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
|
Norah demonstrates the ability to relate to others as she sees her research and game as being beneficial to others. She shows curiosity and is always wanting to find out more and develop her knowledge. I have been pleased with Norah’s ability to manage herself and work independently and steadily on her iExplore project.
