FRIDAY WEEK 6

✍QUICK WRITE✍

Today I was publishing my narrative writing. I think I should've made the  chapters even longer and it having smaller font and still having it three pages

here is what i have done so far:

The incredible story of the five gems!

CHAPTER: 1
Hunting

Have you ever had  a day you knew you had to do something otherwise you would never to be able to survive in Alaska? Well, that was my day. I had to go hunting with my dad. I tried to make a excuse like yesterday but he didn't fall for that shenanigans again.I shivered as I walked outside. Even though  I had  two Layers  of pants on, three layers t-shirts And a big yellow puffy jacket And that's not all of it! it!Then 2 pairs of socks So I wouldn't get Frostbite!I put my shoes and then put my gloves.Even though I had so many layers on I still felt cold!Well,After a few years I'll get used to it.I've only been in Alaska for 1 year.

CHAPTER:2
Transformation

As me and my dad scurried off into the woods.I saw something shiny the distance
I dashed to it. It was a flower.I have my hands over like a Mockingbird.Feeling a streak of warmness go through me.I pick it up to get a closer look. It had five gems on it.I place it down.I look at my hands they were furry! I patted my body when I got to my face I had a snout! I look behind myself I had a bushy tail! I dash to the nearest lake I look at my  reflection I was a squirrel! I pinch myself wishing it was a dream.

CHAPTER:3
HELP!

I was stuck as a squirrel forever I start
to cry. Then suddenly I see a deer.
The deer said do you want to know how it happened and how to change back. I said “of course”Well, then you need to listen to me. you know that flower that you picked up.  Well, it had five rubies on it and now they are lost.So now if you want to change you need to swallow them before sunset tommorow. Don’t worry they taste like candyfloss and the ruby’s colours are red, green, blue orange
and purple.

CHAPTER:4
“WHAT WOULD A SQUIRREL DO”

It was getting dark. I had to find somewhere warm and fuzzy. So I could take  a nap.z I saw a forest. I thought “what would a squirrel do” Right then an idea pop into my head I collected so berries and nuts I found a bunch of pine trees. I jumped in to one of the holes in the tree. I sat and started to make a fire. I got a rock for a pillow and start to get comfy.  Heat comes to  my face and start to sleep.
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

CHAPTER:5
NEXT DAY

I wake up. I do a lazy yawn. Then struggle to get up. Firstly I went I went straight away to the deer I talked to yesterday.

Mathlympics Narrative- Week 4&5

Narrative Assessment:
Learning Coach:  Diana Wilkes         Date: 25 August 2016
Learning Area:         Maths
Key Competency:    Using language, symbols & texts, Managing Self
NZC AO:                   Level 2 Measurement→ Create and use appropriate units and devices
to measure length, area, volume and capacity, weight (mass), turn
                                      (angle), temperature, and time.
Learning Observed

Ormiston ICON COLLABORATE.jpgWe have had a mathalicious two weeks! Norah, Momo and Louisa have participated in the Mathlympics iExperience which has involved a series of measurement challenges, a BreakOut code team problem solving tak and an archery challenge,  The mini-mathlympics iExperience enabled the girls to be curious as they explored the resources in the various mathlympics activities where they measured volume, capacity, distance, time and practiced setting up a calendar. They were encouraged to explore the different resources and see how they could build on their maths capability. They connected the knowledge that they already had about good ways to practise maths capability with the equipment and used it to make conclusions about what to do with the equipment.  In the BreakOut EDU activity the girls collaborated well and managed to crack some codes. It was great to observe how well the girls collaborated together and how they applied their prior knowledge to the bow and arrow design.  The girls were inspired by some videos before they began to draw their design and list the materials needed.  They built their design with materials making modifications as they went and practiced shooting before the final competition.

Olympic Narrative

Learner: Momo, Alesha and Norah     Learning Coach: Mr Hattie          Date:2016
Learning Area: Learning Habitat 1 - iExperience
Learning Observed
During iExperience we were discussing sports that have been discontinued from the Olympics. Some very weird sports indeed, such as underwater swimming, horse high jump, rope climbing, even cricket was once in the Olympics. For this task the learners were charged with coming up with inventing a new sport. They had to come up with the rules, how to play, uniform and show the others their game. Momo, Norah and Alesha’s group go very excited about this idea. There was talk flying back and forth about whether they want to involve jumping, running, team game or individual events. Momo and Alesha were frantically writing down the ideas for the games they could play, showing great brainstorm Capabilities. The Collaboration in terms of deciding what they should pick was very high. They showed their Capabilities with coming up with the team uniform. Norah said “because we are from NZ we should have the fern and the clothes need to make our game easier”. This was a great Connection to know that a uniform is both a representation of your country as well as something that should be suitable to the sport. Their team sport was called human high jump. This is where you have to pile your team mates on top of each other to and jump over them.

Next Learning Steps
Momo, Norah and Alesha’s next learning steps are:
  • Use this experience to springboard an iExplore.
  • Use the experience to write an instructional piece.
  • Design the game further and run a PE session with it.

Bits and Pieces

I made a snowman for Mrs Dilner because it is nearly her birthday.
I chose a snowman because...
I really wanted to make something special for her.
I think she will like it because she really likes purple.

iExperience
I liked it because I had to be really creative and out of the box...

Paragraph Problem Writing Activity

insert the paragraphs in the passage below.

There was once a velveteen rabbit and in the beginning he was really splendid. He was fat and bunchy as a rabbit should be; his coat was spotted brown and white he had real thread whiskers and his ears were lined with pink sateen. On Christmas morning when he sat wedged in the top of the Boy's stocking with a sprig of holly between his paws the effect was charming. There were other things in the stocking nuts and oranges and a toy engine and chocolate almonds and a clockwork mouse but the Rabbit was quite the best of all. For at least two hours the Boy loved him and then Aunts and Uncles came to dinner and there was a great rustling of tissue paper and unwrapping of parcels and in the excitement of looking at all the new presents the Velveteen Rabbit was forgotten. For a long time he lived in the toy cupboard or on the nursery floor and no one thought very much about him. He was naturally shy and being only made of velveteen some of the more expensive toys quite snubbed him. The mechanical toys were very superior and looked down upon everyone else; they were full of modern ideas and pretended they were real.

Literacy Circle Narrative Assessment

Learner:Katherine, Selestine, Norah, Gracy, Aryan and William                              Learning Coach: Mr Hattie         Date: 3 March 2016
Learning Area: Learning Habitat 1 - Literacy
Learning Observed
For literacy the Death Star group are starting Literacy Circles. This is a learner book club where they are in charge of their learning and have roles they need to perform in the group meetings about the text. We started with breaking down what we view as an effective group and the different things we need to accomplish for the literacy circle. We brainstormed many ideas and created a wordle to present our findings. Also we did the same for what an effective group member looks like. We had our first meeting today and we managed to get through most of the roles before the time was up. This means that for next time the learners are going to have direct the meeting and not get of topic. This will help the learners break down the text and understand it better. The learners have been showing the Vision Principles of Capable and Collaborate as the learners are working as a group and having to use the reading skills and strategies they have to produce a high understanding of the text.

The is the wordle for what makes an effective learner

Next Learning Steps
The Death Star’s group next steps are to:
  • guide the conversation around the text smoothly.
  • Use inferencing to find the meaning behind the words.

Charlotte, Norah, Vivian & Helen's Chinese Lantern iExplore Learning Story

Learners: Helen, Norah, Charlotte & Vivian
Learning Coach: T.Dillner           Date: 25.2.16
Learning Area: iExplore - Chinese New Year
Key Competency: Using Language, Symbols and Text, Relating to Others
Learning Observed
Helen, Norah, Charlotte and Vivian chose to complete an iExplore where they could make something to show their learning. When we began this, it was near to Chinese New Year and the girls opted to use this as their topic of curiosity. They were particularly fascinated with the Chinese Lanterns.
To begin with, they needed to ask questions about how the Chinese New Year and Chinese Lanterns were connected. To do this, they focused mostly on using the 5W’s and 1H. After doing some background research, Helen, Norah, Charlotte and Vivian had to collaboratively agree on a method and set of materials that they would use. Finally, they made their lanterns according to their research and ideas, and added their own creativity too.
Evidence of learning

Next Learning Steps
  • Share this learning with another group of learners by making a presentation or video.
  • Explain their choices of colour and materials
    • e.g. why has a woollen tassel been added?

Norah, Disha & Helen - RESPECT iExplore Learning Story

Learners: Norah, Disha & Helen
Learning Coach: D. Wilkes          Date: 5.2.16
Learning Area: iExplore - Social Science
Learning Observed
In the first week of school Norah, Disha & Helen opted into an iExplore around ‘respect’ ultimately creating a product using a digital media.  One of the key purposes of this was to become more familiar with our OrmPS Learning Model. The girls embarked on some important foundational learning around respect and made connections to the Treaty of Waitangi as well.  Norah and Helen are beginning to understand that people have social, cultural, and economic roles, rights, and responsibilities and that cultural practices reflect and express people’s customs, traditions, and values.  Disha enjoyed working with a range of other learners and is beginning to understand how people make significant contributions to New Zealand’s society and that we all have rights and responsibilities.  Working with other learners, the girls began the learning adventure by unpacking the word ‘respect’  being curious around what  it means to them? why is it important? using the mini-whiteboards.  They had an opportunity to see the Treaty of Waitangi and to make the connection that it was an agreement grounded in respect.  They had some fun ideating ‘what would you have on your treaty should aliens comes to live on planet Earth?’ After that, Yuvika, Gracy and Bariyah really enjoyed thinking about how we ‘Respect self’  ‘Respect Others’ and ‘Respect Environment’ at OrmPS and came up with some fantastic contributions- particularly around respecting the environment.  They then collaborated to create a media product which they could present to the wider group and they selected Tellagami (see image below).  I was so pleased with how Norah and Helen worked as capable role models for Disha and the leadership that Norah displayed.  Ka Pai!

Next Learning Steps
  • Start an iExplore learning journey carefully using the OrmPS learning model
  • Continue to work collaboratively with learners who are not in their immediate social circle
  • Use the vocabulary and NZSL signs that learn in other learning areas
  • Grow their capabilities with other digital tools through practice eg. Pic Collage, Sock Puppets, Puppet Pals, iMovie etc.
